microphones, midi, dampers what´s up with that?

Forum Topic: Microphones and/or Pick Ups

So Joe Doubleday has been talking about Mics and Pics on Facebook to me. So I thought I'd start a discussion.

I think they both have there place and both are useful. For me mics come first, pick-ups second. The sound will dramatically change with pickups. It's a different beast all together just like the Mallet Kat is totally different But both good weapons to own (not sure why I used that analogy). I do think though after you have the mic thing down pick-ups are the next step, for the really loud gigs.

Forum Topic: Mallets

Hola vibists!!

I post here a mail that I sent to Tony this morning. He propose to post it at the forum to see if Mario could answer and you others too.

I just bought a MalletKat. Now it is in Miami and a friend of mine will bring it to me next wednesday. I've never play a malletKat so, I want to ask you about mallets. The "answer" (should I say reponse?) of the mallets, ¿is the same like in a Vibraphone?.. I mean, with soft, medium and hard mallets or birch and rattan. I suposse is very different to hit a metal bar or to hit a malletKat bar.

Forum Topic: Amplifier for the vibes?

HI,
I am looking for an amp to play through using condenser mics and eventually some pick-ups. I have heard of vibes players using the Roland JC-120 or The Fender twin reverb. Personally I like the sound of tube amps better and there is someone selling a fender reissue 65 super reverb amp on craigslist.Do you think a super reverb would work well with a vibraphone? Do any of you use amps? or do most people just go into a PA?

Forum Topic: Mixer for recording

All suggestions welcome!

I'm looking for an inexpensive mixer and mics (2) to record myself. I believe I have a "line in" input on my laptop. I really have no idea what a setup would cost. Can you get a decent setup without laying out a lot of dough?

My purpose is to record myself, possibly post my recordings or if I get involved with online lessons. Brand name and model information would be helpful. I've looked a little online but there is so much equipment available its a bit overwhelming.
