Tony, Did you tell me a while back that xylophones were popular because they sounded good on Victrola/78 RPM record players and when the recording/playback technology got better the xylos pretty much disappeared? Xylophone, the Blackberry of the mallet world...

Also, are the tops of the bars rounded? Like the high end Deagan bells?

I loved how he asked the audience to "sing or whistle" along for the second verse of Amy. I bet Coltrane never said that on stage.

i heard that the xylo recorded well period cut through a band and sounded good on a 78.
I heard the xylo players were rock stars for about 10 years. then they got the sax sounding good and then almost overnight the the xylo players were history.

that's the story how I heard it. I could be wrong, anyone hear of anything different?

however! he's playing sax here and it sounds ok to me. Maybe I don't know what happened, but I do know (I think) that xylo players stardom came to an abrupt career.

Any xylo historians out there, know the real deal?

Recuerdo la primera vez que vi un video de Teddy Brown, y sinceramente no lo podía creer...que destreza, que velocidad, que precisión...
Hoy en día me sigo asombrando.

Mamita! Que manos!
Aparte xilo, saxo, silba!
Cuando tocaba el saxo me hizo acordar a "por una cabeza".
