Hey everyone,
This was a GREAT workshop. Nothing else to say. And I have buddies from all over the world. Great friends and great players. What can I say. This is some heavy &*it for me.
We had some great support from some great sponsors! And then all you guys. Man. Because of you, I got to hang with David Friedman and play with him. That rocks!
Who worked his butt off running around and helping everyone. THIS would NEVER HAD BEEN RUN SO SMOOTH WITHOUT TJACO.
This is a transcription of Bach's 2 part invention no. 13. The range has been adjusted to 3 octaves so it can be played on vibes and marimba. Both parts are 90% arpeggios, so using 4 mallets will make it easier to execute the lines. You can download the manuscript [HERE]
Note to Tony: How about allowing uploads of pdf files on video posts so I don't have to keep putting in these external links to the manuscript?
I thought we'd quickly post some of what we're working on. We went through this sheet of voicings. David gave a great talk on them and everyone had to learn them and play part of this. The jpg's are attached. We shot them with his camera.
This is from our 2011 vanderPlas Baileo workshop.
Phillipe Mace gave a great workshop on Improvising over bach. That is learning Bach and analyzing the harmony and then improvising on the chords in that style. It was great and really informative.
He had students come up and play a bit of the piece and then improvise on it. It was great to try and improvise with a different language and there is a ton to learn from this and to then take to jazz.
We were working on singing solos and all of a sudden this came out!
This is a great group this year at vanderPlas Baileo.
I get to play with David Friedman
