Steve Weiss is an old friend of mine. And I've bought quite a few sets of vibes from him over the years. I think he's done a lot for the percussion world by creating the largest percussion store in the world. He's a great, crazy guy that many of us percussionists, vibe players, marimba players around the world really appreciate. So I wrote a percussion piece and named it after him! He definitely is Weiss Guy!

yeah definitely reich in there. i dug some of that music. did think it was a little monotonous and wished there were more changes harmonically, but i understood what they were rebelling against.

hey tony,
how about some insights how you composed this? did you write it on the vibraphon? piano? computer?
i think that would be intresting to know...

i wrote it on a keyboard. i laid out the basics, marimba, vibes, xylo and glock. then i just played on the keyboard with a vibe sound working out a melody and chord structure.
then i put it in the vibe part for the main melody and improvised the accompaniment. i wrote the piece in a couple days. then it took me forever to get it into finale. that SUCKED. the intro came at the end.
i sequenced everything, then exported for finale. i wonder if i should just use logic and use their sheet music. i'm not sure how to do repeats and all that in logic. if that worked then maybe i could do it that way.
i WISH finale or sebelious had a good sequencer. i'd like to work right from that!!!
what do you think?

thanks for that info tony.
i think the same...finale sequencer sucks! it´s a pity that you have to waste time with those simple things like putting something from one program to another. once i was very fast in wrinting notes with finale when i studied because i had to make a lot of arrangements but i forgot about all those short cuts of finale over the years.
i think logic or cubase can also do almost the same notation but you have to learn how...that sucks again...i hate spent time on such things it has nothing to do with music.

i should also mention that

i should also mention that james armstrong really helped me a lot. i gave him the final version and added some stuff, tweaked a couple things and really made it a lot better i think. it would not be as good without his help!
i'd like to use logic for notation. that would help me. i have to look into repeats and first endings and all that.
