besides my noisy instrument. i love this duet with david. what a great vibe player he is!
the noisy instrument is partly my fault. if the instrument is noisy use harder mallets.
BUT I WON'T HAVE THAT PROBLEM ANY MORE WILL I? No because I'll be playing a Malletech Omega from now on. Very very very quiet!

How to play artificial harmonics on vibe ?
Babu Thu, 06/28/2018 - 07:45
Wonderful duo, full of listening to each other !
Besides that, after listening to David, i wonder how to play the artificial harmonics like he does at the end. Unfortunelly he opened the Musser's side cap just before... And i didn't found an explanation on Internet.
Who could post a video of how to do ?
maybe david will see this -

maybe david will see this - however I think he's on vacation.
lifting the lid --> maybe he was making sure the fans were open. understand?
you put the tip of the mallet on the center of the bar and then struck the bar with the other hand. and wait and then lift the other mallet off the bar. i think thats how you do it. i never do harmonics, i should practice them.
Thanks Tony

It seems it's somewhat tricky to get the harmonic right. I've tried unsuccessfully, but i'll try much more ...
there's a lesson for david to

Yes, we are waiting for it ! As far I know there's not many vibists out there using harmonics. Maybe because it needs a very special touch, or it's particulary tricky....

Salut Babu,
with a bit of physics know-how it's very easy to get the harmonics:
Hold the one mallet slightly in the center of the sound bar and then hit the bar (not too strong) just above the knot (center between two bar posts).
Tout le meilleur
Paul
Thanks Paul

Yes, I know the physics about natural and artificial harmonics, and I use them on guitar since 50 years now, but on every kind of instrument the way to produce it is different and generally needs a special touch. Nothing better to see someone doing it.
Besides that i loved the evolution of your work with vibes frames. I wasn't home when you posted it, I saw it with one or two weeks of delay. I hope it will end up with a manufactured design available for everybody wanting to buy it !
Best, et à un de ces jours !
