New Video

Hi folks,
Here's a new video from a recent CD release gig in NYC. This piece started as a bit of a vibes etude that I expanded for a trio. This track is entitled "Never Sleeps" from my last album "Gotham."

"Conversation with Dave": Giovannni Perin European 6et

The song is dedicated to my mentor David Friedman. Once we were hanging out in my house in Italy and I showed him the harmonic and rhythmic Idea that opens the song. Then we decide to play a "kind of blues" on top of this strange chords progression... after a couple of week I composed this tune!!

Giovanni Perin 6et live from Georg Neumann Theater in Berlin in july 2014:

Giovanni Perin: vibes
Tommaso Troncon: Tenor Sax
Dima Bondarev: Trumpet
Yuriy Seredin: Piano
Marcel Krömker: Bass
Diego Pinera: Drums

enjoying Tony's mallets

I started experimenting with Tony's signature Balter mallets about 6 months ago and they have become my goto mallet, replacing the Good Vibes (now Vic Firth) Burton mallets that I used for so many years.

Although they are harder than the Burtons, they can still produce a nice full tone, but with some added brightness that makes the vibe sound bell-like and beautiful. I've been recording with them lately and am including a sample here.
