I am a 2 mallets guy as well.

I have moved back to the mid-state Pennsylvania area where I worked for 26 years. It's an "active 55" community, where the residents are older than dirt. This place has been called the "elephant graveyard" of Penn State alumni. I've rejoined Bellefonte Community Band. I play whatever's needed to fill in with the MalletKat, a lot of tympani, some temple blocks, chimes and occasionally vibes.

According to his website, this kid (Jason Collier) is 18. His composition, instrumental, vocal and creative abilities are amazing. Check out this YouTube video of him performing Don't You Worry About A Thing. He sings all the parts, plays all the parts and wrote the arrangement. Incredible.

I'm new to this site, although I've been playing vibes and marimba for more than 50 years. That said, I have a question about maintaining the bars on my beloved Deagan vibes, which I bought last year. While doing a yearly cleanup and routine maintenance -- a few drops of oil in the designated spots on the motor -- and a light scrub with a mild detergent on the bars, I noticed several tarnish spots on the bars. Any suggestions for removing them? I'm reluctant to use anything that might damage the bars or alter their tone.

Here's a second basic lesson on playing the TOTM, Alone Together, in 7.

This is the 2nd octaves etude. It has similarities to the first, although some of the voice leading notes are different. Also, this one has full voicings with the octaves, and I've added the rest of the form. It's kind of tough, and it took me a little while to record a version I was happy with, haha!
