Hey Everyone,
December's Good Vibes (the 1st and the 4th) will be on the air before we know it. Here's a preview:
Here's the final dampening etude. It's complete with the bridge and last A, along with a few fun, new voicings! Enjoy!
Here are some alternate changes I use for the the 9th thru 11th bar of Alone Together. The typical change is Bmin7 E7 Gmin7 C7 F f7 emin7b5 A79 Dmaj7. My substitution is Bmin7 Bb7#11 Amin7 Ab7#5 Gmin7b5 Gb7#9 Emin7b5 A7 Dmaj7.
Here's an idea to incorporate into your playing which works well over Alone Together.

John D' Agostino from KDSD jazz 88.3 out of San Diego sent me this review of my debut recording, " Jackson"
“The first thing that drew me into two new releases by vibraphonist Thomas Mackay — his Quintet’s Here’s That Rainy Day and especially The Mackay Project’s Jackson — was the revelation that he’d written vibes songs. This can’t be over-empasized.
Here is a belated Halloween tune. I recently discovered the tune JuJu by Wayne Shorter. My arrangement is inspired the version by Philly pianist Tom Lawton.

I'm calling this the twin to the first dampening etude. It picks up where the other one left off, except this one is a 4 mallet etude. Although it's 4 mallets, you'll find that I kept many of the moving lines from the first one.
So the challenge with this one is to move voices within the chords.
Hey everyone,
I started to work on septembersong (Kurt Weill).
In the picture you see the voicings for the 1th 8 bars I made for the A section.
Am I making big mistakes in this ? or does it look like something I can work with ?
Thanks in advance for your feedback.
Greetings,
Stefan.

There comes November… and its new TOTM: Alone Together! We started with great lessons and etudes. So join us!
Today we learned the passing of Angelo J. Vaglio. He must have been 95 or 96 years old but he kept playing nearly till this end and was an honourable member of our community. We dedicate this newsletter to him and will keep up vibing in his memory.
