Limerick 2013 - Thanks Tony!

Huge thanks to Tony, and everyone who makes this site what it is, for a great five day workshop in Limerick!

My training is in classical percussion, and like many players from this background, the quickest way to make me stop playing was to put a chord chart in front of me! Having wanted to learn to improvise for a long time, and recently become a subscriber on Vibesworkshop, I finally decided to take it seriously and signed up for the week. This being my first workshop, and a beginner to improvising, I have to admit feeling quite a few nerves walking into the first class.

Forum Topic: Six Patterns

Norbert mentioned what I call Leading & neighboring tones on V7chord tones, I've been taught bases on triads sort of & chord tones I can find it's the stuff between that gets confusing
leading tones a chromatic step below ( fluff?)
neighboring tone a diatonic step above (good for sound in key)
and here are the six possible patterns for getting between chord tones

major
1) C D E 1 2 3
2) C Db E 1 b2 3
3) C D# E 1#23
4) C Db D# E 1 b2 #2 3
minor
5) C D Eb 1 2 b3
6) C Db Eb 1 b2 b3

The past 12 months have been a bit tough for me (nothing dramatic though). I did my best to keep up with the vibes, but it’s been hard.

Since June 21st I’ve had no chance to take back the mallets, my vibes remaining covered in my living room, holding papers and folded clothes. I was always blinded by my ‘duties’.

Until last Saturday afternoon, when I suddenly realised, in the middle of all the things I still had to do… that I was alone at home. I took off the cover. Found back the multicolored Miceli 46R, and finally allowed myself some real time for me.
