I discovered this piece, "A Time for Love" by Johnny Mandel, on the radio last night. I didn't catch the name of it but was able to get it by humming it into http://www.midomi.com/
It is such a beautiful tune. I bought a couple of versions to listen to and the "Jamey Aebersold Play-A-Long", which you hear here. There were probably a couple hundred versions on Amazon, including Bill Evans.
On thing that is really tough about this tune is getting the articulation of the melody. I was trying to get as smooth as possible.
Mint condition, easy to transport, great for pit work, orchestral, multi-percussion set ups, sound effects, etc. Super easy to breakdown and transport. Look it up to get the specifications-- non-graduated bars, thin width to bars, best for 2 mallets, ok for 4 mallet open position chords... I am in Sunset Park Brooklyn, you must pick up yourself, no shipping, price non-negotiable, comes with dust cover. Please call JC at 917-647-6563. Thanks!
Anybody know of a good piece for vibraphone and orchestra? I have to perform it on Sept. 8th with the Bruckner Orchestra.
Taken at the festival in General Roca, Argentina
When I was in college I was fortunate enough to befriend a number of great student musicians/composers. One of them was a fellow named Mitch Coodley. He wrote many great tunes that I think are as good or better than tunes by any famous composer. I've recently recorded one of Mitch's tunes called Piper's Samba. I think it is a super tune that has a great melody and is challenging to improvise on.
Happy Birthday Tony!!
Did I miss a post to congratulate Tony or am I really the first...?
Anyway, Happy birthday Tony!!! Sorry I haven't been around here but I have been busy and am preparing for our second child that is coming in about 6 weeks...
Hope you guys all have a great time this summer with all the workshops and I hope to catch up soon with all of you!
Keep on vibin'!!!

Check out Andre.
He's a great vibe player from Brazil. I'm trying to get him to post some lessons on the site talking about the Brazilian rhythms and how to play them on the vibes! He has great chops. He played a whole 1.5 hour show and I think I heard him miss ONE note!!!!!
