Recently I discovered what was advertised as a mid sixties Musser Century Vibraphone available in Carson City Nevada
(about 300 long miles from my home in the Bay Area) I had to make a hard decision (if I was going to make that long drive just to check out this instrument.) What I remember of these old instruments is that the bars are beautifully rich, loud, smooth and somehow different then newer Musser bars. My instrument has been a mid 70's A440 Provibe that I have always loved the sound of and that has been my sound on the vibraphone for 20 years.

In publicity a one sheet is a sheet that's only one page and has all your info packed on it. Then people extract whatever they need. So....

I always try to find parallels between other things. Since I'm playing chess again, I'm always thinking of the rules of chess and applying it to music. These are exercises I do when sitting around. Make associations between one thing and another.

Here's an etude for our TOTM "Peace". It can be played with 2 or 4 mallets. Can anyone pinpoint the arranging technique I've used for this etude?

I find it very interesting write your own solos to investigate new concepts. In some classes with David Friedman has encouraged me to do it. I think it is very important to grow as a musician.

I discovered this piece, "A Time for Love" by Johnny Mandel, on the radio last night. I didn't catch the name of it but was able to get it by humming it into http://www.midomi.com/

It is such a beautiful tune. I bought a couple of versions to listen to and the "Jamey Aebersold Play-A-Long", which you hear here. There were probably a couple hundred versions on Amazon, including Bill Evans.

On thing that is really tough about this tune is getting the articulation of the melody. I was trying to get as smooth as possible.

Anybody know of a good piece for vibraphone and orchestra? I have to perform it on Sept. 8th with the Bruckner Orchestra.
