I'm curious about other people's experience with mallet break in. I have a set of mallets that sounded really harsh (i.e. too hard) when I first played them and now they sound really great.
Interesting sounds and nice playing ! Enjoy !
Thank you Mike Balter for making this years workshop a big success!!!
I thought you guys might like to see this. I've been using these mallets for about 3 or 4 months and they are great! Much lighter than the old ones and I'm able to play 4 mallets way easier. They last a really long time as well. Stefon also shows some interesting techniques.
This etude has a similarity to Etude No. 7, but focuses more on mallet dampening with ringing chords underneath. PDF is attached.

Here's a lesson I recorded for the trumpet site and thought some of you might be interested in it. Keep in mind that all of the examples I play will sound a step lower than what they are (because trumpet is a Bb instrument). So if I talk about G7(#9#5), it's really F7(#9#5).
Not a pretty sound!
Hey everyone, To reaffirm my belief in the value of composing alternate melodies, I'd like to offer up a Free CD of mine to the first two people to post an alternate melody to any of the Tunes of the Month that we have gone over on the site! Post a lead sheet and an audio recording of you playing the melody if possible!
