Wow, I've never seen anything like that before! I think I would burst into tears if that happened to one of my instruments. Pretty funny that everyone immediately stopped playing too. Pretty tough to follow that!

OH Tony, really feel for you here, bro. Such a drag. BUT, the very first time I played vibraphone in public was in our junior high percussion ensemble. We were playing she'll Be Coming 'Round the Mountain on a stage with some slope and I forgot to set the wheel locks. It started rolling away from me so I grabbed it with my left hand and played the melody with my right. When it came out OK I realized some melodies can be played one-handed and might even work better that way. So, there's lessons everywhere. (Did you know that happened to Bob BECKER when he was performing on a student's borrowed marimba. The frame was (supposedly) totally trashed--ouch!)

That hurt to watch. I'd be finished for the night if that happened to me.

Thanks for writing. I saw a photo of us taken when you came to Iowa about eight years ago. I'm Ok and getting older. I'm 65, and I've started slowing down at work. I had been a hard-charging doctor for too many years, and it hit me that I needed to slow down. I'm not ready to retire, but a slower pace is welcome. I have a little time to play and check out what's happening at vibesworkshop. I appreciate getting the emails detailing what's going on at the site. Are you doing the online vibe hang anymore? I hope you are well and content. All the Best, Bob

This is epic. Im not sure whether the sound that came out of me was a laugh or a wince....

I heard a story on XM that Bobby Hutcherson told about the wisdom of elders when he and Milt Jackson were on stage together on a Jazz cruise. A big wave tilted the boat and both vibes rolled across the stage. Bobby made a move to run to get them, Milt grabbed on and he said "wait a sec they will come back". Sure enough they rolled back Bobby grabbed one and the other smashed into it, WHAM! Milt said "it just struck one".

Tony is right an M55 would need some adjusting/repair after a tumble like that especially with the bars on. Sounds like she was playing the tune "If I were a brake"? Oh wait the name of that tune was "If vibe were a fell"

I was on a jazz cruise in Boston Harbor on July 4th (77 or 78 I think). Gary Burton Quartet was playing when fireworks started going off and everyone went to one side of the boat. The boat leaned over and equipment went rolling. Everyone stopped playing except Bob Moses who took the opportunity to play an amazing duet with the booms!

What instruments does this pertain to?
