ADDED ZOOM LINK - Pop Up Class - I Remember April

This class is for paid subscribers. If you've been thinking about joining vibesworkshop, here is a good opportunity. You get 3 workshops by 3 great vibes players for roughly 20 dollars.

Workshops will be by: Tony Miceli (Feb 15), Behn Gillece (March 1st - 7pm) and Oliver Mayman (March 14, 3pm).

So the next pop up class will be on I Remember April. You have to pass a test to get in the class. First class is February 15th 7pm EST

Also you have to be a subscriber. But for a couple months subscription you get 3 1 hour classes. That's not worth 20 or 30 bucks?

Here is the entrance exam for the class. So do the following if you want to join the class

1. Tell me is the title I Remember or I'll Remember
2. Play the Melody (from memory)
3. Play the chords. (It would be nice but not mandatory if you did them from memory).

Here's my version.

And also my version with my substitutions. I think I'd do my class on my arrangement.

Know something about the tune if you take the course. Study it a bit, play bass notes on the piano. Voice chords in your right hand. Think about the harmony, think about the key centers. Do some work so you learn something. If you walk in and don't know anything about the tune, you won't get much out of it. But if you prepare we can really learn some stuff and have fun and for my class you'll understand my substitutions.

You don't have to be great or play the tune great, just know some things about it. I could make some simple tests for you guys with Google Forms to guide you if you wanted.

i am getting some cool ideas here.

How about this, if you get in the class and enough people join, I'll do more than one class. In the other classes, I'll have some other vibe players do the class. Probably Behn, and Oliver for starters. Maybe I can talk David Friedman into doing one.

great start by memorizing the melody and playing it every day. think about phrasing etc.
memorize the chords, think of them in the easiest way you can. think of them in blocks.

post the requirements here. That's only to make sure you're thinking about the tune in some way.

I would like to join this pop up. Great song and I always enjoy the pop up classes. I have learned so much in the past year and want to keep growing as a musician.

Hello all working on this tune!

I have been working on a bass line transcription to better understand the harmonic ideas/movement going on -

The transcription is from the album, "Sonny Sits in With the Oscar Peterson Trio."

Sonny Stitt - alto
Oscar Peterson - Piano
Ray Brown - Bass
Ed Thigpen - drums (one of my favorite drummers as well)

If anyone disagrees with some of the notes or if this helps in anyway let me know - I have been spending more time figuring out the notes than actual analysis - I may have made some errors in regards to register on the bass, but I believe most' of the notes are correct -

Great looks like we will have a few people.

We will meet the 15th at 7pm EST for the first session.

From there we'll figure out the next session. Sessions will be approximately 1 hour.

I'm glad you guys know the tune even if a little bit.. It helps a lot.

i love it and hope you guys do also.

I think it's great we prepare for the class and then demonstrate that. A lot of times we talk at one level, and here's an opportunity to check me, behn and oliver out at a higher level. 3 generations of vibe players. (that's catchy, I have to remember that).

So I love that you guys are preparing for the classes!

Tony: Haven't been on this site for a good while. Love the pop-up class idea. Count me in for the sessions. I'll try to add the audio files you requested but I'm having trouble getting my mics to work on my computer. Will try to post the files tomorrow. I'm know the tune and the chords ... I love this tune.
