Do people like us still make CD's? Is there a point to doing that? I'm curious because things have changed so much since I was active in it full time. What is the standard media product for artists like us? Recordings have pretty much become "business cards" and give-aways. I'd love to hear the full scope of what seems cool and purposeful to the upcoming class of musicians and the established ones.

I don't want to say too much about it but I'll start off with this.

It's sad to go hear a vibe player and then you can't hear them.

Great standard written in 1947 with lyrics by Sammy Cahn and music by Jule Styne. Many great versions of this song by vocalists and instrumentalists. Two of my favorite are from Chet Baker and Keith Jarrett.

Write the chords in. Learn the tune. Check out the etude. Check out the bass line. If you have a synth play the bass line on the synth. Do you understand it? See the notes, the upper partials I stick in because of the melody of the bass line?

I hear some stuff similar to Walt Dickerson. I mean the out playing. The instrument does lend itself to playing a lot of crazy notes. I think when musical players do this it's great.

Here's a section on Teddy including David Friedman talking about studying with Teddy.

Teddy quit the business for a long time. He came back towards the end of his life. He seems pretty down in this video.
He quite and did something in the Caribbean with a boat. Giving tours or something like that.

I think he sounds pretty good here.
