Behn Gillece:
Mindset (Posi-Tone Records, 2015)
Just a reminder, I've got a cool community blog and website going, focused on jazz vibes in the NYC scene...

this week, check out Behn Gillece's new record, "Mindset," which is smoking! Behn is nothing short of a post-bop marvel on the vibes. If you want to study/understand modern, straight ahead vibes improvisation, transcribe Behn's solos! I encourage you to pick up the record and post a review at Amazon, like I have here (this will help Behn sell some more copies!):

As some of you guys know, I have been working hard for a number of months on a book of conversations with the great jazz vibraphonists. This will include many of the "big names" you know and love, along with some lesser known artists are also world-class players, and are busy spreading the "good vibes" around the planet. The book is not only going to be a one-of-a-kind collection of conversations celebrating the instrument we love, but also a coffee table-style collector's item, with color portraits and other "goodies."
J’ourvet means Street Party at Carnival and is at the heart of
this recording. From the samba drum intro to the last reggae
tune, you will be transported to your own Caribbean island
with a street party happening just beyond the palms.
J’ourvet is the collaborative effort of steel pan artist Tom
Berich and vibraphonist Thomas Mackay. These musicians pay
homage to their love of Caribbean music, influenced by
musicians like Andy Narell, Dave Samuels, and Mike Mainieri.
This recording breathes new life into Narell’s “Izo’s Mood”
From gig with Mark in Haverhill, MA at a local Asian restaurant.
