This is my final etude of this series of performances. Hope you enjoy and learn something from all this work I 've done so far. I certainly learned a lot. One more lesson on solo vibes (Friedman's wrap up) and CHOPS HERE I COME. I already started to practise baroque music and I am going to practise also the omnibook.

All vibes players!

In time for this year's PASIC we have just released a series of 6 New Pieces for Solo Vibraphone by Joe Locke. The music is fully notated, of medium difficulty and each piece is accompanied by an original audio file, recorded by Joe.

This was recorded at an informal gig where our regular bass player couldn't make it. We ended up reading some tunes out of the real book so we wouldn't make the bassist sight read some of the more difficult originals. I was reading "Deluge" for the first time (shame on me).

Was speaking with the great saxophonist Dave Binney (www.davidbinney.com) last night who played at our Jazz Club and we got talking about vibes and vibe players and how the vibes are now being played by some great young cats, and Dave commented on how many young players are now appearing on the jazz scene. One such player that David mentioned whom I have never heard of until last night is Chris Dingman, I have never seen him on the site either,Tony/Marie? Anyway I had a listen to some of his stuff and its very interesting, so if anyone can add to this or knows him please share it here.

Someone to watch over me.

Hello guys. One of the great thing you can play alone on the vibe is ballads. I think the instrument has the potential to provide the feeling and the warmness to play slow songs at least as much as a piano. but the challenge is to stay clear with the pedal (lot of dampening) and not to rush.
the key is, I think, to take the time to "breath" between each lines and to "sing" the melody. This will help to have the right direction and emotion.

New to the board and looking to start my journey into learning to play the vibraphone. I'm 50 years old and have played various instruments (keyboards mainly) over the years. The vibraphone has always appealed to me and I'm excited about learning to play.

I'm looking at a 60-70s pre-Ludwig M55 that's for sale in my area. The question I have one simple question (for now): are the older M55s harder to breakdown and move than the Pro-traveller versions?

Anything else one can share about the pre-Ludwig models would be greatly appreciated.
