Ed Saindon Solo Marimba playing Ellington's Things Ain't What They Used To Be

Hello guys, I just created a new YouTube channel to post some clips for marimba. We just posted clips on marimba of Duke Ellington's blues Things Ain't What They Used To Be and Carlos Jobim's O Grande Amor. I'll be posting some more clips including Clapton's Tears in Heaven, Morricone's theme from Cinema Paradiso and an excerpt from Bach's Sonatas and Partitas that I improvise on. The marimba is such a beautiful instrument. I'd like to put some more marimba clips out there that show other possibilities for the marimba that I don't think the marimbists are taking advantage of.

Moonglow - Solo Stride Vibes (almost)

hey,

since tony posted so much stride stuff i thought i will try something on that. i choose moonglow. this was my best attempt out of 4. i put on a tiny brush snare and cymbal to work as metronom (you like it marie?) and to work on my timing, since i tend to rush always.

i think the feel is ok but i need more practice on the movement of the left hand during the solo.

Friedman Etude No. 7 by BarryK

I have been working on Friedman Etude No. 7. Going along with the theme of this month's Chord Fest, I add some chord accompaniment to the second repeat.

This is the best take of the night. I am still working on it but wanted to post my progress.

I think if I memorized it, it might be better. Right now, I am not looking much at the keys, so I miss notes. I need to work on my timing too.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks,
Barry

Brazilian Music

Brazilian music.

With the chords festival, the topic of grooves arose and one of them is brazilian rhythm(s).
I personally lived (in the 80th) some years in Brazil as a professional musician and since then I lead a MPB (Musica Popular Brasileira) group and a Batucada (street percussion band), both playing samba, samba reggae, partido-alto, afoxé, maracatu, and bossa-nova , musica-cansão, baião, choro, in addition for the MPB group. I had the opportunity to play with numerous brazilian players and singers during my career and I keep doing so. That’s for my credentials…
