What is a Four Cord?
In the Jazz Vibraphone book on the Milt Jackson chapter I read on page 33: "Blue notes emphasizing the Four Chord" and "One Chord Dominant 7th, b9 scale leading to Four Chord".
I have no idea what is referred to. Who has an idea?

Ok here's the deal with this one.

Add the fourth note and then tell me all the possibilities of chords.

For instance I'll add a D in the voicing. So it could be a Bbmaj7b5. What else could it be. There's more.

After this add a different note.

Here's the thing, don't get too out there with the chords, but be creative. You know? Think about what chords you've seen before. It's a fine line between 'it could be that chord' and 'I've never seen that chord before'.

Alexandru Anastasiu is a buddy of mine (via the internet) and a great classical vibe player. I just got his cd and have been listening to bits of it via my crazy schedule! What Chord is this. Yep Fmaj7 but it has other possibilities. What are they?

Sure it's C/C# but it's a bunch of other chords. The thing about the vibes is since we omit the root and even the fifth we can reuse voicings for other chords. So name them.

It seems to me that 9/11 had a profound effect on the music business. I've never heard that talked about. As I remember it was after 9/11 that all the New York gigs fell apart. No one was going outside. All the clubs started doing the door for musicians. I heard of one club where you had to tell the guy at the door you were here to see the band or the money would not go to the band!!
