Solo version of "Minha Saudaude" by Ted Wolff

Here's another arrangement for vibes, this time of a tune titled "Minha Saudaude". I've not seen it in any fake book. I got it from Mike Metheny after hearing his group perform it a few times. The melody is somewhat syncopated and fits well with a simple 2 feel accompaniment. The melody has some wide intervals, and is easier to play if you use both mallets in your right hand.

You'll need to "flutter" the pedal a lot to keep the numerous half steps in the melody from ringing together. Try to get the melody to sound as clean as possible.

Premier shells circa late 50's early 60's

this is not vibes related but more for drummers on the site. I am in the process of restoring an old Premier shell set 12x8 16x16 20x14 which I acquired at no cost. They had a white covering on them which I managed to remove without damaging the wood and then I had the laborious task of removing the glue underneath which took 4 days there are some parts missing which I will have to try and replace which might be difficult as they are old so anyone out there who might have some knowledge of where to source them I would greatly appreciate it.

I was supposed to be practicing, but was fooling around instead, and came up with this little pattern. I decided to make an Etude out of it. There is some rhythm permutations (is that the word?), inspired by Behn's VW Etude No. 1, and some arpeggiated open voicings to practice.

I posted a short version of me playing a couple variations of the pattern. The .pdf and .mid files are also attached. Note that the intent is to play it in all keys. I only wrote out a few keys.

Have fun,
Barry

Converting Freedom Jazz Dance to a Blues

This vid cuts in in the beginning. But listen to it and check out the end. This is where we first worked on Freedom Jazz Dance as a blues.

We were winging it. You can hear the first couple choruses where we're getting the form of the blues straightened out! Funny huh? That's cool to me, figuring something out between us without words.

Forum Topic: Recording yourself

i don't have anything good for recording myself, so i'm looking for something with good audio recrding. i'm thinking probably just audio, some sort of portable recorder. but if there's anything that has video too i wouldn't be opposed to it. something around $100-$200 or so is what i was thinking. thanks for any info on this!
