Music publishing

Does anyone have any advice for publishing your original music? I've been doing a fair amount of composing lately for a CD project I'm working on, and I was wondering how the process works, is it worth doing, etc.

A little while ago Mike Pinto mentioned the benefits of publishing your tunes and I looked into the company he's with, but they seem to require more stature in the industry than I have. Does anyone have suggestions that will work for people with day jobs?

Any advice appreciated :-). Thanks in advance.

TOTM - More Fun with Rhythm Changes by Behn Gillece

Ok, so here's another overdub thing I did. I played Anthropology, head/soloing/head, then instead of rhodes accompaniment, I just did a vibes part underneath. I think the challenge here is to not make the underneath vibes comping sound in the way. Very hard to do that!

Basically, I just play a bunch of choruses, and try to exhaust all the stuff that I would normally play. After awhile, I try to find new little things to add on top of the other stuff. I like practicing this way because it forces you to come outside your comfort zone.

My First Perc Piece by Tony Miceli - Almost DONE!

Here's my first percussion piece, with more to come. My wife doesn't dig it. But Harvey Price does so that's hipper than my wife digging it! Got to work on my snare parts, but this is it. quick vibe solos. I think I'll post with the vibe part as soon as it's done in Finale. Then maybe some of you guys can give it a shot!

I'll put the complete final up, this one cuts off.

(Behn gave me a good tip, thanks Behn)

Django 3 by Tony Miceli

I've been spending a few hours a day taking pieces and playing them. I give myself a few minutes and then I record a take. I love the tune Django and want to work it up to play with a group and also as a solo piece. It's an incredibly beautiful tune!

I have the MIC TOO close to the vibe I realized. I'm using my zoom for this. Lots of instrument noise. But this is just a practice session for me, so who cares.

How Deep Is The Ocean - Vibes/Bass Duo - Ed Saindon & Mark Carlsen

Here's a version of my good friend Mark Carlsen on bass and I playing Irving Berlin's How Deep Is The Ocean. This is a great tune to play. Some of my favorite versions would be Chick Corea's (a somewhat reharmonized version titled Now He Beats The Drum) on the album Now He Sings, Now He Sobs. Of course, Bill Evans' version on the Exploration album from 1961 with Scott LaFaro and Paul Motian, and Keith Jarrett's version (with Gary Peacock and Jack DeJohnette) from his week at the Blue Note in 1994.
